Williamston, N.C. Doris Williams was born on April 30, 1936 in Williamston, NC to the late Tom Maye and Maggie Edwards. Doris departed this life on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Golden Living Center in Tarboro, NC. Doris better known as "Popeye," attended Martin County Public School and worked at W.I. Skinner Tobacco Company for many years. She was a member of Little Thankful Holiness Church under Bishop Claudie Wilkins. One daughter preceded her in death: Tanya Marie McNeil. Five sisters preceded her in death: Louise Wilson, Almeta Williams, Alice Whitfield, Laura Whitley, and Earline Pullen. Five brothers preceded her in death: Benjamin Edwards, Johnny Edwards, Noah Wiggins, William Henry Wiggins, and James Wiggins. Doris loved to cook and it gave her much joy to have her family and friends gather at her home for her home cooked meals. You were guaranteed to see her and her youngest daughter "Sapphire" driving in that green car going to Dollar General and Piggly Wiggly daily. Doris leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Timolin Rodgers Moore of Glen Burnie, MD and Alice "Sapphire" Rodgers of Williamston, NC; two sons, Keith Rodgers of Windsor, NC and Ellis Rodgers of Tarboro, NC; two daughter-in-laws, Jackie Rodgers and Jennifer Rodgers; one sister, Sara Henderson of Philadelphia, PA and one brother George Edwards of Baltimore, MD; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at United Holy Church of Deliverance in Williamston, NC with Bishop Claudie Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews Memorial Park in Williamston, NC.
