Josephine Ore Mullins
Josephine (Joe) Ore Mullins, daughter of the late Arnice Hassell Ore and James Matthew Ore, Sr. was born June 28, 1939 in Martin County, North Carolina. She departed peacefully after 74 years of life on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital in Virginia Beach, Virginia after a lengthy battle with lung cancer.
Josephine was raised on her family farm, number six of eleven children. From her parents she learned the importance of faith, family, education and hard work. She was educated through Martin County Public School System and graduated from E.J. Hayes High School. She was baptized at a young age and a member of Back Swamp Church of Christ (DOC). As a young woman, Josephine moved to Baltimore, MD in search of better employment opportunity. She was employed by the University of Maryland Hospital System for over 40 years when she retired in 2004. In addition, she was an active member of the AFSCME Maryland, union for State and University employees.
Josephine met and married the late Robert Mullins, Jr. and together they raised two children, Winfred and Tammie. Josephine joined Perkins Square Baptist Church and was an active member of the Ward D. Yerby Circle auxiliary.
Family and friends were Josephine's passion and delight. She loved sharing the holidays with family, preparing meals for others and reminiscing about the past with laughter and joy. Her Baltimore home was often the stopping point for family traveling north or south. Her door was always open, whether a short visit or extended stay.
In 2008, Josephine relocated to Virginia Beach, VA where she resided with her daughter. She joined the Forever Young senior program at Seatack Community Recreation Center. She was a faithfully member of Rehoboth Baptist Church, where she was active in the Senior Ministry and a supporter of the Youth Ministry, Women's Ministry and Pastor's Aid. While she loved to travel and vacation with her family, what she really loved was having them all together under one roof.
